Tim Smith Southern Reserve Whiskey comes from Tim Smith of Climax, Virginia, the moonshiner made famous by Discovery's Moonshiners and the man behind Climax Moonshine. Southern Reserve is his aged whiskey: a step past the clear stuff, rested in oak for color and depth. It pours reddish amber. Sweet corn and mild rye on the nose blend with smoky, caramelized oak, and the palate follows through with barrel sweetness and grain before an earthy, nutty finish. It is easy-drinking at this price, good neat, over ice, or in a whiskey and cola. This 750ml bottle is a natural pick for Moonshiners fans and anyone who wants an affordable American whiskey with a real backwoods pedigree.
