This chair was designed by Alvar Aalto in 1935. They're made in Finland from solid birch wood, with a veneered laminated seat and backrest. Alvar Aalto created a way to bend the wood by carving slits in them, curve them and then glue them again. This method was used before the more popular, easier and cheaper way of bending plywood was invented.
